1 For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. 2They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3They all ate the same spiritual food 4and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 5Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert.
6 Now these things occurred as examples[a] to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry."[b] 8We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. 9We should not test the Lord, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. 10And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.
11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 12So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!

1 Vả, hỡi anh em, tôi chẳng muốn cho anh em không biết tổ phụ chúng ta đều đã ở dưới đám mây, đi ngang qua biển, 2 chịu Môi-se làm phép báp tem trong đám mây và dưới biển, 3 ăn một thứ ăn thiêng liêng; 4 và uống một thứ uống thiêng liêng; vì họ uống nơi một hòn đá thiêng liêng theo mình và đá ấy tức là Đấng Christ. 5 Song phần nhiều trong vòng họ không đẹp lòng Đức Chúa Trời, nên đã ngã chết nơi đồng vắng.
6 Mọi điều đó đã xảy ra để làm gương cho chúng ta, hầu cho chúng ta chớ buông mình theo tình dục xấu, như chính tổ phụ chúng ta đã buông mình. 7 Cũng đừng thờ hình tượng nữa, như mấy người trong họ, theo lời chép rằng: Dân sự ngồi mà ăn uống, rồi đứng dậy mà chơi dỡn. 8 Chúng ta chớ dâm dục như mấy người trong họ đã dâm dục, mà trong một ngày có hai vạn ba ngàn người bị bỏ mạng. 9 Cũng chớ thử thách Chúa như mấy người trong họ đã thử thách mà bị loài rắn hủy diệt. 10 Lại cũng chớ lằm bằm như nấy người trong họ đã lằm bằm mà bị chết bởi kẻ hủy diệt.
11 Những sự ấy có nghĩa hình bóng, và họ đã lưu truyền để khuyên bảo chúng ta là kẻ ở gần cuối cùng các đời. 12 Vậy thì, ai tưởng mình đứng, hãy giữ kẻo ngã.
